Works brilliantly for nine months until... I loved the system out of the box. Sounds great, when it works. I bought and took back this system 3 times. Uses proprietary speaker terminals plugs! I purchased the Sony DAV C770 new and when I openned the box; I just could not believe that they would use proprietary speaker connection into the unit. I feel rather fortunate then... Fortunate to have come upon such a nice system, firstly, but also because I've had none of the problems reported by others. Great System - Tons of Features. Great looking and sounding system. Nice System But Man Are The Power Ratings Off.... .. Wow, I havent had all these problems. It is a great sounding system and I haven't had any of the serious problems I have read here and I bought it two years ago. Excellent entry-level system. I carefully researched home theater systems priced between $200 and $600 before choosing the Sony DAV-C770 and I have been very pleased with the purchase. Worked fine for almost a year.. Sony sucks - Never buy a Sony. This expensive piece of junk looks good, but is a real headache to own. Owned. it's simple, it rox. Yet another croaker... As a few of the other recent reviews reveal, this system is a lemon. Total Junk - Sony's expensive lemon. I thought this would be a very nice system. Sony just lost a valued customer. I have had the same problems that everyone else has, with the dvd's skipping and freezing and not playing, and frankly I'm just fed up. DAV-C770. I have mixed feelings about my new DAV-C770. Unreliable and expensive to repair. We purchased this unit and have found it to be highly unreliable. DAV-C770 has very inconsistent, unreliable performance. I took a risk in 2002 and bought this system when it was launched. Same problems as others have - can't play DVDs. At least now I know I'm not alone. Worked for a while... Sony was one of the best products you could ever buy but this one seems to be something of a misfit.
Why can't I put zero stars? PIECE OF GARBAGE. Bought new for my mother-in-law about three years ago. A DVD player that can't play DVD's!!!! I'm trying to watch my C770 as I'm writing this, and the DVD is getting stuck all the time. It skips on almost every DVD. Every other DVD will skip. Excellent...when it works. I am experiencing the exact same issues with this system as the previous reviewer. Do Not Buy This System, Unless You Want Trouble! I bought Sony because I trusted the name. Piece of junk!!!! I have two of this; bought one for my Dad, one for myself. Good product, don't expect much capability for today's world. My wife and I got this product about 3. DVDs STUCK. I too have had problems with this system- My DVDs got stuck (i only had it for less than a year)- i sent it back to get repaired- only to have the machine come back STILL BROKEN! Poor Player. Very poor engineering by Sony on this one. Can be balky but it's an easy fix in my experience. I own 2 of these systems.
BIG Disappointment. I paid a lot of money for this system in March 2003. Don't waste your money! This item has been in for repair 5 times, and Sony says that because they fixed it once, they won't correct the issue they caused during "repair" DON'T BUT THIS PRODUCT. Finally, somewhere I can 'vent'. I hate this P. 2 years and no problems. I love it, compact, nice. Love it... Let me first admit, I've only had the c770 installed for about a week now, having watched 4 DVD's on it thus far, in addition to normal TV watching and of course the NFL playoffs.
