The true test of HTIB. I've owned this system since April 2006Recently, I had the pleasure of viewing Star Wars, Episode 3, Return of the Sith; Digital cable/HBOHD/Cablevision I. ***Best Home Theater in a Box to date!*** I made my decision to purchase the Denon S-301 through the reviews on CNET. Great system... after 3 returns. I believe for the price its worth the money, but buyer beware it took me 3 returns to Crutchfield to find the perfect one. Consistent with Other Reviews. I went to Magnolia (high end retailer) and they convinced me that I should get the Denon S-301 since I didn't want to install true surround sound and tear up the house. Avoid this system. This system is no longer manufactured, but I was very interested in getting the HDCD capability in addition to the other features, and when I saw that it was available as a cut-price refurb, I bought it. Close But No Cigar. I purchased this system in December and found it to be less than anticipated. Great Sound W/ a couple negatives. My wife and I very much enjoy the sound this unit produces. The other reviews are dead on--this system rocks. I just received this system last week after ordering it off of Amazon and couldn't be more pleased. Very Good - BUT... It's small, attractive, and feature-laden. AVOID Denon. I purchased this unit back in 2005.
Denon S-301. Similar to others I experienced the intermittent loss of the DVD signal. Top-Gun. I have had numerous surround sound systems. Do not buy Denon. These units apparently have a fatal flaw in them. Excellent. I recently purchased the s-301 to change from a much larger stereo system. Disfunctional with hdmi, and denon repair is unreachable. Maybe the other reviewers are denon employees. Great sound. I bought the Denon S-301 to connect to a Sony Bravia 40". "Music to my ears" I wanted something compact but powerful. BEWARE if buying for IPOD INTERFACE. One of the main reasons for buying this system was for the IPod interface, which generally got quite positive reviews. Big sounds for small spaces. Overall, I am pleased with the S301. Awesome sound and processor. Just bought mine last night and was blown away by the sound from the speakers.
Ipod compatibility. I bought this new in January 2006 along with a new video ipod. Here's the story with the Denon S-301. I bought this home theater system from Crutchfield--not Amazon (because although Amazon is my overall favorite online store, the bad experience I had with a television purchase has made me vow to never buy another big-ticket item from Amazon ever again). The "Cool Factor" Sold Me! I was undecided between the Bose 3-2-1 GS and this system until I realized the Denon system had a USB port for playing MP3s or WMAs from ANY mass storage device. Bang for the buck. I have researched home theater systems online for a long time before I rested at Denon 301.
